Natural Cockroach
Control Step 1
Using a Natural Cockroach Dust
20 Mule Team Borax
- This is not a soap but an additive (laundry booster) made from borax. It is a great
natural product to use for the laundry but this product can be used with great success in
controlling roaches. Simply sprinkle the borax powder in places where roaches are hiding
(attic, inside walls, drawers, cabinet, carport, etc. Places where your kids, dogs, cats,
etc. can't get at). If you use on rugs, then brush into fibers then use a broom to sweep
any thing left over. The main caution is to be careful where you put it so that it is not
ingested by anything other than the roaches. Use lightly.
- Using Boric Acid: You can buy boric acid from your local garden nursery store or from Pic Orthoboric Acid Roach & Ant Killer 16 oz
. There are
many brands available. I use Ortho brand since it is 100% pure boric acid with no other
additives in it. It comes with a blue dye to prevent dogs, cats , kids from eating it. the
coloring has a bitter taste to it , which only effects mammals. You can also buy from
other companies a pure white boric acid mixture one is called Roach Pruff. I prefer to use
this since it won't stain rugs etc. You should rub the boric acid into the rugs and then
sweep away any remains.
A Safe Dusting Formula
- 1 cup peppermint leaves (powdered)
1 tablespoon DE (garden grade)*1
1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper or chili pepper,*2
1 tablespoon powdered pyrethrum *3
1 tablespoon salt
Blend well together. Use a mortar to grind together into a fine powder. Sprinkle in
locations cockroaches are seen. Spread a very thin layer. Follow along walls, in cracks,
under structures. Be careful using cayenne pepper as it will make you sneeze. Use as
much as you can handle. African Cayenne pepper is 940 BTU's and the best to use. Any type
of pepper will do. DE should be used lightly inside. Works best if allowed to stay for 24
hr. or more. In between walls, under houses, use in the attic, and in the cellar, are good
places to apply. Put in closet corners. Use outside along side of house and dust in places
where roaches hide (under logs, wood, etc.). This mixture can be made into a paste by
adding a little bit of water, and a tablespoon of butter, stirring until a paste-like
mixture is made. As a paste, you can place into roach cafes and place in the areas they
are seen (but hidden). They will eat this and die. Avoid using on rugs as it may stain.
You can use DE Straight on rugs but use lightly.
