Natural Roach
Control Steps 5-11
Step 5
Vacuuming
- Regular
vacuuming of rugs, under furniture etc. will pick up egg cases. Dust with
pyrethrum / DE
mixture 1 hr. before. Dispose of vacuum bags by placing inside plastic bag and tying shut.
Step 6
Getting a Tune Up
- Our Daily habits must
be changed to create less favorable conditions for cockroaches to survive in. Think about
what you are doing and how it is promoting cockroach lifestyles. Controlling the water
sources both inside and outside, controlling food sources inside and outside are two ways
to insure that the roaches won't make your home their home too.
Step 7
Storing Food
- It is important
not to provide food sources for them. There are many ways to store food. Using glass jars,
canned goods. A Seal-a-Meal is a handy tool. Check your food containers. Throw away any
food stuff with cockroach cases. Throw away in sealed plastic baggies. Roaches can
transmit salmonella, boils, typhus, dysentery to name a few. Throw away any food
contaminated. Never leave food open over night. Remove stacks of newspaper, magazines and
grocery bags. Throw away old books or donate to library. Look for good roach hiding places
and remove them.
Step 8
Waste Management
Step 9
A Little Handy Work
- Keeping cockroaches out can be as
simple as using rubber caulking around any entrances. Check around windows, doors,
crevices, cracks, air vents, etc.. Check under house for possible entrances into house.
Follow pipes into house. Check around connections, etc. Look for possible water sources.
Repairs to the house are an important part of roach control.
Step 10
Modifying the Environment
- The type of house we live in
determines conditions which can lead to cockroach infestations. If you happen to live in a
housing situation that promotes roach infestations, the first choice is to move. If this
is not possible, then attempt to keep your immediate environment as clean and as healthy
as possible to live in. Keep your home clean and let lots of light in. Another way to
modify the environment is to use incense. Try varieties that will keep them away.
Step 11
Cleaning Up
- This is very important. If your
environment feels good to you and encourages you to do better, then you will do better,
and you will be able to control the cockroaches. Cockroaches have a well developed sense
of smell. They will find any food that you leave for them that is out of reach of the
ants. Cleaning Up is very important. To control them use Dr. Bronners Peppermint Soap when
cleaning up. The scent will help to confuse them.
Growth Regulators
- Gencor prevents roaches from
reproducing. Available from Gardens Alive!
Predators
- The Gecko is a natural predator of
the cockroach. Many people are keeping them instead of cats. Chickens love cockroaches
too, so allow chickens to run outside if possible. There are many natural predators of the
roaches including birds, spiders, lizards, wasps etc. Always encourage them by providing a
safe place for them to be in.
