Compost Production Materials used in layers

 

Three compost bins. First bin holds initial raw materials. Preferred Shredded

Layered with

 

rock dust, spread a thin layer of a rock dust blend. (buy as many different types of rock dust as you can and blend them together and use that). Remember, it is trace minerals you want so use lightly. If you cant buy different types of rock dust to blend, try and change the rock dust every year or so, so that you will can a great blend of minerals since not all rock dust are equally as minerally rich in all the minerals while some are dificient in other minerals. Keep in a container, mark it Rock Dust

Organic Lawn fertilizers come with a variety of beneficials and provide a good nitrogen source to help te compost cook.

Here is an example of an excellent organic lawn fertilizer but also great to add to your compost to increase bacteria

Dr Earth 829 40-Pound Organic Super Natural Lawn Fertilizer

Adds life to your compost by providing a broad spectrum of beneficial soil microbes plus three mycorrhizae strains as well as a good source of organic nitrogen. Use lightly.

Green material like grass or green leaves

Brown materials like dried leaves, other dried materialss

some soil

coffee grinds are good to add to the layer. Keep in a container and apply a thin layer

kitchen waste

never add any thing raw to second or third bins

shred everything first to speed up the compost process

sprinkle a small amount of water in between layers.
