Actually the compost itself does not attract animals but rather the animals are attracted
to the food that you are throwing into the compost.
There are several ways to avoid this
problem:
1.....use a 3 bin system. Only throw food into the first bin. Make sure its layered with
other organic matter and combined with a high energy source such as rock dust to insure
heating. Heat will keep an animal out. The bin should have a lid which is kept closed
restricting access to animals.
2....you can pre-compost your kitchen food before you put it into your compost bin.
This is done by using a small waste bucket which is filled half way with compost/soil.
Place kitchen scrapes into this bucket and mix in with the soil. Dump into compost bin
once per week replacing with new compost/soil.
3.....you can run your kitchen waste through a blender and then pour into compost pile.
4.....get a cat! just kidding
