Problems with Compost

Compost smells bad!

If your compost smells like ammonia, then you are adding too much nitrogen rich materials (like raw manure which is rich in urine). You may also be adding too much water. If it smells rotten and their are a lot of flies around it, you are adding too much kitchen wastes without properly turning it. Make sure that you are adding enough of the various materials needed by the compost pile.

Green wastes such as grass clippings brown wastes such as dried leaves kitchen wastes minerals such as rock dust, bone meal, etc bacterial rich such as animal manures. Turn your pile over more often!
