This product uses a time-released
BioLure which attracts the flies into the trap. Comes as a kit and contains the
following: 1 Safer HouseFly Trap with top, cup, lure and bag attachment ring, two
col-
lection bags and one BioLure in plastic bag. This trap is easy to assemble and
instructions are easy to follow. Place at least 4 to 6 ft. above the ground. Hang from
eaves, roof, ceilings of barns and kennels or hang from trees or shrubs. Place in shade
during summer and in direct sunlight in cooler weather. Place near sources of infestation
such as kennels, garbage, horse manure areas, etc. Trap should be serviced every two weeks
by replacing lure or bag, if damaged. You can purchase additional lures from the company.
Additional plastic bags can be bought to fit the trap. Safer Housefly Trap is available
from most garden centers as well as mail order companies like Arbico, or
Peacefully Valley Farm and Garden Supply. Comments: After trying this product for several months, I am impressed with several
things: The unit itself looks great and is easy enough to put together. The lure which it
comes with works very well as long as it is not allowed to dry. This is the main problem
with this unit. The conditions under which this unit is operating will determine how often
you will have to check the lure for water. Also , in order to increase its effectiveness,
I added a small amount of fish emulsion into the lure's small container, and a small
amount of water to that with a drop or two of soap. The fish emulsion really attracts the
flies but can cause quite a smell so don't place inside the house. Also a small piece of
fish can be used here.
The Fly Terminator
This product has been around for a
long time. Effectively attracts and kills flies without poison scatter baits or
electrocution. Uses attractants. This is a large bottle-like product which holds water. An
attractant such as a piece of fish or fish emulsion can be used instead. The instructions
say that no meat or fish is necessary because of the attractant they sell with it, however
I found it preferable to use fish heads, etc., and/or to add a small amount of fish
emulsion to the water and to change it every month or so as needed. The unit is placed or
hung near where there is a fly problem. I have found this system to really work in
attracting, catching, and killing flies. Available from most garden centers or through
mail firms like Arbico, Gardeners Supply.
