Fly Control for animals and pets

For effective use, the DE must be fed long enough to catch all the newly hatching fly eggs

Cattle, including dairy cattle
2 % by weight of dry ration

Calves
4 grams in morning

Chickens
5 % in feed

Goats
2 % of weight of grain

Hogs
2 % of weight of feed ration

Horses
1/2 - 1 cup in daily ration

Sheep
2% of weight of ground grain
Parasite Control for Pets: If you have pets, DE may be used for parasite control. However, it should never be given to very small pregnant animals such as cats, guinea pigs, etc. It may be given daily.

Kittens
1/2 teaspoon

Cats
1 teaspoon

Puppies
½ -1 teaspoon

Dogs under 35 lbs
1 teaspoon

Dogs 35-50 lbs.
2 teaspoons

Dogs over 50 lbs.
 1 Tablespoon

Dogs over 100 lbs.
2 Tablespoons

Small Fly Pest Management Tips

Some Things come in small packages
Fly larvae are usually already very small but small fly larvae are even smaller.They do not need much to survive on! Think about that when you are cleaning up.


Look down floor drains and into the areas where "stuff" is left standing. Anything at all is enough for the larvae to survive. Flashing a light will cause the larvae to move.


Use your nose and smell for any rancid odors which will help you to pin point the breeding area.


Here's a trick how you can spot the flys... Just stare into the air, and allow you eyes to adjust and if they are , you will see em fly by!


Take a look around the outside of the house. Some times they will be coming in from the outside thru a broken screen or window. See if you can spot any obvious entrances and repair them.


Look for air drafts as they can some time show you where the flys are coming from.
Take a close look at your window ledge. Adult flys like to go to windows, so a ledge will tell you about the numbers of flys present in that area.


Watch where the trash starts from and how it moves to where it ends up. Look for potential exposure to the air which will attract flys and allow for breeding.
Learn to use Mineral Oil as a way to smother the larvae.


A Good Home made trap is to leave a plastic bag in the drain at night and check wether any flys were caught in it in the morning.
Take a look at all of your water sources and fix any leaks.


Clean all possible fly breeding areas with a good sanitizer like hydrogen peroxide.

Essential Oils work great here too. Also a clean citrus oil will work as well if not better.


Take a look and make sure all sewer lines are operative and not leaking, repair any that are leaking.


A few drops of vinegar on a glue board wil catch thousands of flies.

Remember that garlic will kill flies on contact, so spray with garlic. make your own garlic spray.
