Ants and Tree Sap

If your tree is leaking sap, this is usually an indication that the tree is under some type of stress and is opened to attack. Ants are usually the first to attack. Actually what happens is that the ants find out about the tree and herds aphids up the tree to provide it (the tree) as a food source. Aphids as well as other insects and diseases are attracted to this sick stressed tree.

It is important to first find out the source of the stress. Does it need to be fed or watered? Is is being damaged by something? take a good look at it. see if you can understand what its telling you. control the ants from climbing up the tree.
